My Old Self

Since returning to the language classroom as a student back in September, I feel like I’ve returned to who I truly am. Making learning a number one priority and physically being present in a class, with other language learners, and with an engaging teacher, has made me feel like my old self again. Not the old self that was hung up on grades and what my profession would be, but the old self that loved learning languages more than anything else, and was so gung-ho about it that she hosted foreign-language film viewings at her house.

By extension, I’ve been more productive lately, and more willing to try new things, and I think this is because learning in general, and learning languages in particular, brings me comfort because of the joy I feel when I’m experiencing the process of language learning. Re-finding that place where I feel so comfortable allows me to break out of my comfort zone in other aspects of my life. If an experience can make you feel like you’re at home, then being in the language classroom is that for me.

It’s so lovely to be back home.
